On the periphery of Aotearoa New Zealand’s publishing scene, there is a rich and varied cottage industry of small press publishers that are pushing the boundaries of book-making. Despite the huge costs of printing, and even bigger challenges of distribution, alternative publishing in Aotearoa is thriving.
Drawing on the stories and essays from Dwelling in the Margins: Art Publishing in Aotearoa published by GLORIA Books, leading practitioners from across the pond discuss the drive to publish, and what challenges and opportunities affect the community. Celebrating the return of International guests to the Melbourne Art Book Fair, the panel will feature publishers, designers and curators from major galleries, artist run initiatives and distribution collectives all based in Aotearoa New Zealand.
