Drinking From The Eye is the first photobook by Australian artists Honey Long and Prue Stent, and the third in the PHOTO Editions series, co-published by Photo Australia and Perimeter Editions.
Commissioned by Photo Australia for PHOTO 2024 International Festival of Photography, Drinking From The Eye takes the form of an abstracted visual diary, presenting a combination of constructed photographs and detail shots that emphasise the artists’ attention to form, texture and material.
Honey Long and Prue Stent’s art is grounded in experimentation between bodies, materials and environments, and creates a space for the animate versus inanimate – the human and other – to interweave. “We see the body as a microcosm and are constantly exploring environments to find moments, processes or formations that reflect a feeling or speak to the body in some way,” the artists explain. “We try to find points of connection where the outside world and our inner worlds overlap.”
To launch the book, the artists will be in conversation with designer Žiga Testen, editor Justine Ellis (Perimeter Editions) and commissioning editor Elias Redstone (Photo Australia/PHOTO 2024).

Žiga Testen Speaker
Žiga Testen is a Melbourne/Naarm based designer and educator specialising in typography and publication design. Since 2013 his eponymous studio has prioritised work for contemporary art and culture in close collaboration with artists, curators and cultural organisations. Testen was born in Slovenia and has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Ljubljana, holds a masters from Konstfack University, Stockholm and has been a participant at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He is currently a PhD candidate and a lecturer at RMIT University, Melbourne.
Justine Ellis Speaker
Justine Ellis is the co-director of Perimeter Books, Perimeter Editions and Perimeter Distribution. She has published, edited and art-directed more than eighty books on Australian and international photographers, artists and illustrators. She has undertaken written and photographic commissions for various publications, and has delivered talks and lectures at various universities, institutions and international art book fairs.
Elias Redstone Speaker
Elias Redstone is the Founder and Artistic Director of Photo Australia and PHOTO International Festival of Photography. He has a track record of initiating and delivering innovative cultural programs, has edited publications for Prestel, Sternberg Press and Bedford Press, and has acted as a contributing editor for Arena Homme Plus and GQ Style. He is currently Australia Editor at Wallpaper* and his book Shooting Space: Architecture in Contemporary Photography is published by Phaidon.
