What dish reminds you of home? Is there a recipe you’ve called your mum or dad for over and over again? Or a meal that you’re craving to make, if only you could get the ingredients here?

Artist and designer, Steph Ochona, presents a zine-making workshop exploring the multifaceted aspects of food, its role in our lives, and the intrinsic link food has to our culture, identity, history, and values.

Over the course of this 2-hour workshop you will learn a series of zine-making techniques and go home with a handmade zine that you can keep, share with friends, or with your community.

Adults of all ages, backgrounds, and experience welcome. No prior zine-making experience is necessary. Materials and snacks provided.

Presented as part of I fear for my books, a collection of texts centring Filipino authors and curated by Saluhan Collective for SHELF, a community library and learning site that supports re-gathering of communities in partnership with Arts Gen.

Saluhan Collection is a Filipino/x artist collective created to establish a network between creatives in Australia and the Philippines and has since expanded to include collaborative projects that combine arts and community development. Their practice is underpinned by notions of kinship, reciprocity, and the desire to create spaces that interweave artistry and community. Saluhan have previously collaborated with Footscray Community Arts, Next Wave, Arts Gen and Siteworks to develop high-concept food and arts events.

Stephanie Ochona Facilitator

Stephanie Ochona (she/they) is a Filipino multidisciplinary artist and designer working on unceded Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land. Their work has been featured in Melbourne Design Week, Overland, The Suburban Review, No no no mag and Liminal. They self publish zines and comics under the alias Creepy Cheese.
