Following the workshop is the performance My Loneliness is Afraid of the Dark. Empty houses, hungry hearts, the pain of having nowhere to give your love and the lingering hope that one day you will. Award-winning spoken word poet Megan J Riedl meets her loneliness head on in this collection of poems and short stories on life, loss, love & lockdown.

Megan J Riedl is feeling out loud. Combining the personal and political, she leads by example in standing up, showing up and speaking up, sharing the messy, human experiences that often go unspoken. Megan’s poetry fearlessly gives voice to the secret stories we tell ourselves and her playwriting explores themes of identity, belonging, truth and power, highlighting issues of social justice. An award-winning spoken word performer, Megan’s poetry has been commissioned, published and exhibited from Fed Square to the Immigration Museum, and for election campaigns to music festivals. Known for creating beautiful worlds of stylised realism for the stage, Megan is a collaborative theatrical director with writing, producing and directing credits with community and independent theatre companies across Victoria. In the spirit of feeling out loud, Megan practises expressing herself in multiple modes including collage, watercolour, linocut, video, and sound. She lives on stolen Wadawurrung land in Ballarat with her cat Mishka, her dog Mook and her two children.
